My sister is planning to give me a tattoo when I fly out to see her next week, so I’m playing with some ideas. Here is my boy, Sebastian.
@iamtheyellowbox awwww this would be so cute!!!
@piratejamming Wouldn’t it?! He’d make such a sweet little tattoo
@iamtheyellowbox I think you should definitely do it
@piratejamming Made a few edits to the face so it matches him better and sent it to her. She says she could do this, so long as we have time. Fingers crossed!
@iamtheyellowbox that's so exciting!!! I hope you have time for it
@sweveris @piratejamming Thank you! I love him. I’m so excited to get something from my sis (she’s been training for 15 months and finally agreed she’s ready to tattoo me) and I’ve wanted my boy on my skin since forever!
@iamtheyellowbox @sweveris ahhh I love that for you!!! That's so awesome. Is it your first tattoo?
@piratejamming @sweveris Nope. I have four others. But this would be my first by my sis.
@iamtheyellowbox that's still really exciting!! I don't have any tattoos but I have so many ideas for ones I would want to get if I could actually make the design ideas into something cohesive
@piratejamming I have a million ideas but very few plans on where I want everything and how to make them flow together. I’ve been working lately on trying to plan placement and style better for a cohesive design.
@iamtheyellowbox ooooooh doodling them out like that is so fun!!! My biggest problem is that all of my ideas are like... Really small? I have a whole collection of fandom symbols I want that would all probably only take up a 3×3 to 4×4 space each (the clock from Hannibal, Izzy's swallow and maybe a teacup for Stede, either a keyblade or world door from Kingdom Hearts, the paper boat from IT, a burning letter for Hamilton, and maybe a few other things) and I was thinking maybe I could just-
@iamtheyellowbox Collect them all in a big sort of collage over my shoulder and side or something, but I'm not sure if that would look stupid or not
@piratejamming Doodling helps me figure them out so much easier! I highly recommend if you are trying to figure placement. I want my full right arm to be a sleeve of smaller thin line tattoos. Right now I’ve only got the snake and nautical star, but I want to fill it with a bunch of ideas. Not these tattoos (this pic is a random from Pinterest) but this VIBE.
@iamtheyellowbox oooooh yeah that's a really fun vibe!!! I am definitely a fan maybe I should just commit and let the fandom symbols be a proper sleeve but also I work in business and am petrified about screwing myself over for jobs in the future with tattoos that are too visible. I still want to get Polaris behind my ear despite that... But who could be mad about a tattoo that my hair mostly hides!
@piratejamming I’m terrified of that too. I am really lucky that for the past 10 years I’ve had a job where no one cares that I have blue hair and tattoos and gauged ears…but I work in accounting and am afraid it’ll be an issue someday.
I keep telling myself that I would rather not work anywhere that judges me more on my appearance than on my work history and recommendations anyway. And then I just hope that I can maintain that mentality and that I don’t regret it someday.
@iamtheyellowbox that's fair. I work in finance but I'm not even client facing—I only ever interact with clients over email or the phone, so I'd really like to think that how I look doesn't matter... But also I know I could always change companies in the future, and just because clients don't see me now doesn't mean they wouldn't in another job, and missing an opportunity because of how I look would be such shit. I'm probably overly cautious about it, though
@piratejamming Same! I work strictly over the phone and by email cause our company is nationwide so I handle clients from 13 different states. So it’s not an issue currently. But I do worry about the future. I can always re-dye my hair, and wear long sleeves to hide my tattoos. The gauged ears are a little more tricky, but I think the world is getting more excepting of people personalizing themselves. I hope, anyway.
@piratejamming I mean, *I* would trust a blue haired, tattooed person to handle MY money. So I hope others would too.
@iamtheyellowbox I certainly would!! And I would definitely like to think that people are finally more at the point where they recognize looks and professionalism don't have to relate for certain things
@piratejamming I think more are understanding that than not. Businesses might still be catching up, but I’m just wishing for best and doing what I want with my body
