#MinCup24 R3M4: #Kyanite versus #Topaz
Blue blades of Kyanite are a classic mineral found in rock shops, introductory geology classrooms, eroded mountains, and geological research laboratories. Topaz is a jeweler’s dream mineral, blending toughness with beauty, and has exceptional clarity, brilliance, and versatility.

#MinCup24 R2M8: #Charoite versus #Topaz
Chaorite is an intensely purple mineral with a fibrous, swirly pattern that’s been compared to Van Gogh’s Starry Night. It forms from contact metamorphism in Siberia.
Topaz is a hard, many-hued gemstone that crystallizes along the fractures in igneous rock, and is mined all over the world. It is pleochroic; i.e. it can appear different colors from different angles.
Time to choose your mineral!

It was a very close match but congratulations to #Topaz and commiserations to #Spodumene.
#MinCup24 R1 M16: #Topaz versus #Spodumene
In a battle of the biggest stones, these minerals are ready to rumble.
Topaz forms some of the largest gemstone crystals in the world, famous specimens weighing more than a teenager. The largest crystal of Spodumene ever found is the size of a Right Whale.
Which one will you choose?
Every year around Christmas time I attempt to move from #Windows10 to #Linux.
This year, I have succeeded except for the photo apps I use (#LuminarNeo & #Topaz).
What made the difference this year was 2 main things:
So, I'm now a happy Debian 12 desktop user !

#MinCup23 Round 2 Match 4
If you thought last round featured some hard battles, we were just getting started! Who wins in the battle of beauty and brawn between #Topaz (Mohs 8) and #Corundum (Mohs 9)?

I'm a bit late for #MinCup23 but topaz is moving on to the next round anyway
There is a Spanish folktale about a princess visited by a gorgeous green bird that turns out to be an enchanted prince from China. She falls in love with him, and breaks the enchantment with the help of a clever washerwoman.
The bird transforms from bird to man by bathing in water in a bowl made of topaz.
In the #Goethite v. #Topaz round of #MinCup23, I have been convinced to go #TeamGoethite by limpet teeth and their fascinating feeding tracks! (I have a dental appointment soon and I may yet be wishing I had super hardened goethite teeth rather than these flaky biomineralised apatite ones...)

Okay, so looks like neither is very chaotic this round - #topaz is primarily used for pretty-shinies (and do we blame them? No), and #goethite is *bog iron*, y'all.
However! I'm voting goethite and lemme tell you why: 1) it has a cool habit of coming in after other minerals and taking over where they were, crystal shape and all! (Okay a lot of opportunistic minerals do this, but I think it's cool every time.)
(I've got more reasons, hang on, hitting char limit.) #MinCup23
Oooo #topaz vs #goethite. Iirc topaz is fairly inert on the chaos scale... but I don't remember what goethite is off hand.
Lemme get comfy and I'll get into it...
(It's probably worth noting that I'm just a nerdy amateur rock collector that likes to collect safely, not a geologist or mineralogist or anything of the sort. So I use basic sources, because I can more or less understand them lmfao. When I'm wrong, tho, pls feel free to kindly teach otherwise!) #MinCup23
