If you know the name of the fucking idiots who are running a #ddos attack against #ao3, do NOT name them.
They are after attention and other things and the best thing you can do to support our favorite site is not to speak their names.
#otw volunteers will get this under control. There are mitigation techniques. #ao3down
@ivedonestranger@blorbo.social it's morning in my timezone and if you don't mind, do you know where/who I can check to get up to speed with what's happening?
@betterloxed @ivedonestranger It looks like their main method to provide updates on downtimes is (still) their Twitter account (ao3_status). Which is unfortunate for those us who are not logged in to that platform. I think their official Tumblr (https://ao3org.tumblr.com/) is active too, and gives you some updates, maybe less frequently. #AO3
@potpotkettle@mastodon.social @ivedonestranger@blorbo.social thank you, this is helpful!
@ivedonestranger it's very tiring seeing people constantly trying to find ways to get rid of ao3
I understand. I do not know this for certain but I do have experience in IT and my money is that it's a blackmail attempt. The claim one thing and then privately email with their ultimatum.
Give it at day or two. Once all their IP addresses are mapped and denied at the server level and rate limiting, the ddos will be toothless.
