i had a friend over last night who perhaps jokingly, perhaps not, observed that my love for bts and cats was not making me lonely enough to find a romantic partner and -- i want that to not be true!!! but i get it though... so many things in my life are now set up in ways that make me content and not keen to head out of my house. and that includes emotionally as well. but it's sad, isn't it? to think that partnership only comes to you when you're lonely. i don't want that. and yes clearly i have sufficient platonic companionship that is fulfilling and uplifting and i'm not short of that. but that doesn't stop me from feeling like i'd like someone special in my life too.

Hold My Chicken 🎉

@yesterdaychild I don't think your friend is right, though.

I think if you're content and happy with your life, you are in a better place to welcome someone else into it -- and you're likely to be more appealing to others, too.

Maybe you're less *desperate*. But desperation isn't usually a good look anyway.

@lookitmychicken i think she just means i'm not driven to get out there and look for someone! which is frankly exhausting and i need to take breaks from doing that

@yesterdaychild @lookitmychicken Just the other day I’ve had to tell my coworker who keeps going on way too many dates with men he isn’t even that into only to get rejected and cry himself to sleep every night, that he needs to get a hobby lol
People with hobbies are interesting and hot! And it’s better to spend time doing stuff you love than focusing on something where success is so dependent on other people. Being desperate will only make you ignore so-called red flags or even plain incompatibilities for the sake of not being lonely.

@agoodboysforeverhole @lookitmychicken this is so timely!! and i'm sorry to hear about your colleague crying over men!!

that's such a good reminder that yeah, i have lowered my standards before and actually that was not so good.

@yesterdaychild yes take a break! you are not required to get out there and look for anyone
